This is it...

So you may have noticed that in the last blog entry, I stopped updating at August 19th. Do you know what the significance of that day is?

Turns out, it marks the year-long anniversary of this blog and my 365-day photo project. It completely took me by surprise - in fact, I continued taking photos for a few days after until I realized that the yearlong mark had already passed. I was kind of disappointed because I had planned to take some big, grand finale photo!

Instead, I will leave you with this.

Just a simple, happy photo of me from a day before the end, August 18th. I took this myself while Zack and I were at Marblehead Lighthouse. Funny thing about this picture is I knew when taking this that the end was soon, but I thought it was actually the 17th (of course I couldn't check since we were away from home). I was upset I had missed it, but turned out it was a day early! Whoops!

The fact that the end of this project caught me off guard says to me that I really enjoyed doing this. And I did! It also says that maybe I shouldn't stop taking a photo a day and blogging about it. That's what happened to my Aunt Louie, who I stated a year ago was the one who inspired this project. She is in the fourth year of photo blogging and a link to her blog is on the right sidebar next to this post. I always said after 365 days of this, I'd stop. I was going to document my first transitional year of college and that was it. But it's not that easy, is it? I grew attached to my camera; carrying it around was habit and snapping a picture was part of my daily routine. I know some people asked when I started this project if I would be able to actually finish. Of course, I said yes, but in the back of my mind I wondered if they were right. But now that I'm so used to doing it, I can't believe I ever worried that I'd get tired of it or forget.

You know what else is interesting? I started and ended this blog with the camping trips that Zack and I took. We decided last summer that we were going to make it a tradition every summer, but when we planned this summer's trip, we didn't even think about when we had taken it last year. It's kind of crazy that it just happened to land in the same time frame as before, and now serves as a bookend on my blog along with the other trip.

I'm not really sure what else to say at this point - this is a bittersweet moment, to say the least. I don't want to say that I'll never photo blog again, because I do love it and it is a part of me. I was sad when I realized I was finished. However, my life is only getting busier and as you saw over this past year, although the pictures are still being taken, the updates are fewer and fewer because it takes so long to do them.

For now, just know that I greatly appreciate all of you, my readers. I know of a few people who always read my updates and give me feedback, and it means a lot to me. I'm sure there are others of you out there who I don't even know read my blog, and I appreciate you, too.

It's been a great journey, and I know will only continue to become greater. I can only wish the same for all of you. And just remember...no matter what happens in life, take it a day at a time.

Update 2 of 3...

8/14/11

I returned to work after Stone Lab and saw this! Every month, the cashier with the most perfect drawers wins a $25 Marc's gift card. This time, it was me! I bought lots of school supplies. :)

8/15/11

At work again and discovered this. How does this happen?! One of the many joys I have to deal with at work...

8/16/11

I skipped a day. :( Booo.

8/17/11

Camping with Zack at East Harbor State Park! This was our wonderful campsite.

Walking along on of the paths bordering East Harbor. It was beautiful!

A huuuge lily pad in the water! Crazy.

Glacial grooves! They were big compared to the ones on Gibraltar Island.

The cute little ice cream stand we stopped at that evening. Yum!

The beach at the state park. The water was very shallow in some areas because there were little sandbars dispersed all the way out as far as we were allowed. The waves always made cool patterns on these shallow spots!

A close up of some of the ridges in the sand the waves make.

I loved this beach. :)

Two waves meeting and crossing!

Can you tell I like taking wave pictures?

Zack and I's setup to make smores. Yummm!

8/18/11

We visited Marblehead Lighthouse! I had never seen a lighthouse this close up.

So beautiful!

The views of Lake Erie from the rocky shores at the foot of the lighthouse weren't bad, either.

We went BACK to the same ice cream spot as pictured above and got sundaes! I got this amazing fresh peach sundae and Zack got a buckeye sundae. Sooo good!

8/19/11

Some views of the pretty marsh/wetland areas near the beach of the park.

One last look before we leave!

Before completely leaving town, we stopped to get some fresh peaches at a small market. The Sandusky region is known for its delicious peaches!

Here is the market we stopped at!
Boy oh boy, do I have some huge photo updates for you!

Isabel! She's so fat haha...

7/29/11

Beautiful sunset leaving work one night!

 7/30/11

Early foggy morning! This was taken on Zack's street. We were going to be leaving to drive to visit his uncles in West Virginia soon after this was taken!

Zack and Alanna asleep on the car ride there. :) Precious.

A not-so-good photo of his uncles' amazing house on the top of a mountain/huge hill in West Virginny. They built it with their own hands and it is completely and totally beautiful. This picture totally doesn't do it justice.

The path winding up to their house.

Welcome back to Ohio! Driving over the Ohio River.

Lannie's asleep again on the drive back up. She's adorable!

Ohio River and the hills of West Virginia. I had never been that far south before!

Driving home back up 77 through Canton, we came across the giant hot air balloon festival they have every year!

Cool! I had never seen hot air balloons before and there were SO MANY.

7/31/11

Cleaning my room while listening to my favorite vinyl!

Isabel wanted to help me. She looks mischievious...

8/1/11
Bought some old-school fruit-by-the-foot for a snack. I used to love these! I couldn't believe how good they still tasted. I guess some things you never grow out of.

8/2/11

Anna's dog Cheena! She is crazy and adorable. I love her! I was at Anna's house with Emily because Emily drove up from her home in Columbus to stay with me and see all of us (Anna, Ian, me) and our beloved Akron for a few days.

8/3/11

Freddy passed out on my bed!

It rained that morning and my still-ripening tomatoes looked pretty with water droplets on them.

So did this flower!

Went to One of a Kind Pets with Emily to play with all the kitties and doggies...and they had kittens!! <3 This is Emily holding a particularly cute one.

Later, we went back to Anna's house to cook a big dinner for ourselves and Anna's little sister, Clara. Twas a success!

One big happy family. :) Anna, Me, Ian, Emily. (Clara took this)

8/4/11

Zack got me a huge, beautiful bouquet of flowers. I loved them! :)

Anna and Emily and I went to my dad's to enjoy some water activities and see the lake. My dad took this of us!

Duckies against the sunset.

8/5/11

I volunteered tonight as a model (on a real runway and everything) at the Crooked River Fiber Fling that my mom helped to organize. This is the makeup I did for the show!

8/6/11

Working my usual 8am-4pm shift at Marc's on Saturdays...I love how empty the parking lot always looks as I'm going into work!

8/7/11

And the adventures on Lake Erie begin! This day, I left to begin my week-long adventure at Ohio State's island campus, Stone Laboratory. I was taking an Aquatic Biology class there. I took this picture while riding the ferry from Sandusky to South Bass Island (Put-In Bay).

On South Bass, an OSU boat came to pick us (the students) up to take us to Gibraltar Island (seen in the background), a small island about 2 minutes from Put-In Bay. That is where we stayed and learned for the week!

The dorms for the week!

View of the cliffs on the north side of the island.

8/8/11

The harbor in the early morning before the first full day of classes.

OSU pride picnic table!

The harbor again (with a trimaran anchored!) and Perry's Monument in the background.

The classroom and lab building.

View of Gibraltar as we headed out on the boat to take some water samples.

8/9/11

Some of the macroinvertebrates I found when sampling off the island that morning! A tubenose goby fish, lots of mayfly larvae and a leech.

Our one-legged seagull on the island!

I got the most amazing views of sunsets from the island. This was by far my favorite one of the week.

8/10/11

Riding the ferry back to the mainland to take a field trip to Little Pickerel Creek for some sampling. The wake of the ferry made a rainbow!

A relatively new blue hole at a trout hatchery that we went to see.

The hatchery owner's dog, Buster, swimming in Little Pickerel!

The cutest puppy I have ever seen while waiting to catch the ferry back to South Bass. Ahhh!
 8/11/11

Glacial grooves on Gibraltar!

8/12/11

View of Gibraltar again heading back from our last field trip to Terwilliger's Pond on South Bass Island.

Tons of crayfish we found!

8/13/11

The mob of people getting off the ferry at Put-In Bay while we waited to get on to leave and go home. I had a great week at Stone Lab and learned so much! I loved it! :)

A zinnia blooming in my garden. :)
